Jasper Space Dog by Hilary Robinson @HilsRobinson #BlogTour @lovereadingkids @jasper_space #Review

I’m thrilled to be sharing my review for Jasper Space Dog by Hilary Robinson as part of the blog tour today! With thanks to Charlotte at Love Reading for the invite to join the tour and for my copy. First of all let’s take a look at the description for the book…

ABOUT THE BOOK

Jasper – Space Dog is the first in a series of hilarious stories about the ambitions of Charlie Tanner and his dog, Jasper.

Released to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, the story cleverly weaves facts about the space mission with hilarious ideas about space. In their quest, Jasper and Charlie consult space experts to see if Jasper might make history too.

Charlie Tanner and his Dog Jasper are keen to find out as much as they can about space and the first moon landing. Is the moon made of cheese? Can space aliens deliver pizzas? Did the astronauts see any flying saucers or flying dog bowls? Mixing facts about the moon landings with hilarious ideas about space, ‘Jasper: Space Dog’ is the first in a series of funny stories about a loveable hound with BIG ideas!

MY REVIEW

With a little boy who loves learning about space I knew this book would be a big hit! In fact recently at his school they had spent some time on the subject so it was great to use the book as an extra learning tool. However the book is set out in a very easy to understand way so even if your child has never touched on the subject it’s definitely a fascinating and fun way to get to grips with learning about space. The illustrations are fun and they make a perfect addition to the story. Dex made a point of showing me them which helped to engage him as much as the story did.

The book is written in the style of letters as Charlie and Jasper write to Isabella at Explore Space, UK. I thought this added a lovely twist and made it a little bit different to the usual stories that we read. As the questions are fun it definitely added a light hearted feel especially as your little ones will love some of the questions that are asked in this book. When I asked Dex what his favourite part of the book was he replied with “finding out about food in space”

Initially I planned to read a chapter a day but Dex always wanted me to read more along with reading certain bits himself too! My little boy is six and I would say that it is possibly aimed at a slightly higher reading age than my little one or for an advanced six year old reader. However he easily read certain words and tried to read quite a bit of the rest which I loved because anything that engages him to read is a brilliant thing in my eyes!

Jasper Space Dog is a fun fact filled book for curious young minds and grown ups too! Anything that encourages a child to read and learn is a big hit with me!
