Thank you for stopping by! I’m delighted to be one of the stops on the blog tour for The Ex-Girlfriend by Nicola Moriarty and sharing my review today. With thanks to Sriya at Michael Joseph for the invite to join the tour and for my copy. First of all let’s take a look at the description for the book…
ABOUT THE BOOK
Luke is the one. After everything she’s been through, Georgia knows she deserves someone like him, to make her feel loved. Safe.
The only problem is his ex-girlfriend. Luke says Cadence is having trouble accepting their break-up, but Georgia thinks there’s more to the story. She also has the feeling someone is watching her.
When everything starts to go wrong at work, at home, in her old friendships and her happy new relationship with Luke, Georgia starts to feel truly afraid.
Cadence wants what she has. What would she do to get it?
And can Georgia trust anyone at all?
Well, what can I say? This book definitely took me on quite a twisty journey! One where I was suspicious of everyone along with feeling like I wanted to reach in and shout warnings, amongst other things to the characters 😉 The pace to begin with was quite steady and took a bit of time to pick up speed. However let’s just say when the pace did increase I felt like I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough!
This book follows Georgia who after being stood up on a date meets the wonderful Luke. He’s practically perfect in every way except for one thing, an ex that just will not let go! What follows is a twisted story guaranteed to make you think twice about dating! The twists in this book make it hard to go into too much detail, after all, no one likes spoilers. What I will say is that this is a story that carefully builds the tension and paranoia until it bursts out at great impact to all the characters concerned.
Even though I could see certain things coming it was still very interesting to see everything play out. Especially as I felt as if I was being pulled in different directions right alongside Georgia, with her life beginning to spiral out of control and take some pretty dangerous turns. The latter part of the book really comes into its own and I couldn’t wait to find out how it would all end. The Ex-Girlfriend shows the reader a range of serious issues including self harm and it is all integrated well into the story along with exploring the effects of certain events and how they can impact on mental health. The Ex-Girlfriend has some pretty dark, menacing moments and will leave you with serious trust issues!
