Thanks for stopping by! I’m thrilled to be sharing my review for Art and Soul by Claire Huston as part of the blog tour today. With thanks to the author for my copy and to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the invite to join the tour. First of all though let’s take a look at the description for the book…
ABOUT THE BOOK
There’s no problem Becky Watson can’t fix. Except her own love life…
Struggling single mother Becky Watson longs to revive her career as a life-fixer, working miracles to solve her clients’ problems, no matter how big or small. Since the birth of her two-year-old son she has been stuck preventing wedding fiascos for the richest and rudest residents of the Comptons, a charming, leafy area of southern England known for its artistic heritage.
So when semi-reclusive local artist Charlie Handren reluctantly hires Becky to fix his six-year creative slump, she’s delighted to set him up with a come-back exhibition and Rachel Stone, the woman of his dreams.
Though they get off to a rocky start, Becky and Charlie soon become close. But as the beautiful Rachel becomes Charlie’s muse, Becky is forced to wonder: will giving Charlie everything he wants mean giving up her own happily ever after?
A heart-warming, uplifting romance served with a generous slice of cake.
In Art and Soul we meet Becky who has what comes across as a very interesting and varied job as a life-fixer. Becky solves the problems in your life from the littlest of things right through to the biggest. Even though I loved the sound of Becky’s job I’m not sure I would be best suited to it as I’m not the most organised person 😂 However I really enjoyed discovering all of the different ways she completes her tasks. It is Becky’s job that leads her to Charlie, a local artist experiencing a slump which has lasted for quite some time. Their first meeting is memorable and while it doesn’t go smoothly it was the perfect way to grab my attention.
I loved getting to know the characters in Art and Soul. Claire Huston really has done a wonderful job of creating a set of characters that I really came to care about. Showing me that there was much more to these characters than what there seemed to be at first glance. Along with adding a few flaws that brought a realistic edge to their personalities. We see Becky trying to juggle being a mum along with building her business. As with most things getting this balance right is a constant struggle and this made Becky’s character even more endearing for me. Adding Charlie to the mix begins to complicate Becky’s life, he brings new challenges and I loved seeing how Becky faced them. Now there is a romance within the story and I guess you could call it a slow burn but for me this worked so well. Helping me instead to get a better feel for the characters rather than letting the romance overpower the story from the beginning.
Art and Soul really did charm me from start to finish! The story made me smile throughout with its warm and engaging characters. Even the minor characters all brought something to the story whether it was conflict or friendship. Art and Soul has an uplifting vibe throughout managing to combine a little bit of everything from family to love and even cake. All wrapped up in a wonderful heartwarming story. What more could I ask for?!
