Survive by Tom Bale @t0mbale #Review

Thanks for stopping by! I’m delighted to be sharing my review for Survive by Tom Bale today. A big thank you to the author for my copy! First things first let’s take a look at the description for the book…

Paradise is about to become hell…

On a remote island in the Adriatic, an enigmatic billionaire hosts a twisted form of entertainment to satisfy the jaded appetites of his exclusive guests. And for one unsuspecting family, the holiday of a lifetime is about to become a desperate battle for survival.

As young parents, Sam and Jody have managed to defy the odds once before. But years of struggle have taken their toll, and Sam’s demons return to haunt him at the worst possible time.

Caught up in a sick game of cat and mouse, can they put their differences aside and work under intolerable pressure to save themselves and their children?

Live or die. It’s the only choice they have.

Survive is a twisted story of a holiday that goes dramatically and terribly wrong! It all starts off innocently enough with a family taking a very much needed holiday. Sam and Jody are young parents who have struggled with money and other issues in the past but this holiday is the chance to leave their worries behind even if for just a short while. Tom Bale set the scene brilliantly along with letting me get to know the characters. Showing me their fears and hopes along with seeing their flaws. Once I felt settled into the story I guess that’s when things took quite the dramatic turn. This family find themselves trapped in the ultimate cat and mouse game where they have no control over what happens to them. I felt like I was right there with them as they begin to realise just how desperate their situation has become.

The plot moves at a good pace, providing a slow burn to start with which ensures you get a feel for the characters. Then for the last part a much more quicker pace develops as the tension rises to a high level as this family become even more desperate to escape their nightmare. The thing I love about Tom Bale’s stories are they show a normal situation and then flip it until it turns into something unexpected. Survive is the perfect escape from everyday life and I enjoyed getting lost in the story.

A twisty tale with a dark edge!
