First things first let’s take a look at the description for the book…
ABOUT THE BOOK
To the highest bidder
Lady Lydia Barton cannot seem to avoid Owen Wolfe since he’s returned after being wrongly transported for stealing her family’s jewels! But Lydia has more pressing problems, like her impending arranged marriage. Until Owen makes her father a counteroffer for her hand. Is Owen purely after her society connections, or dare Lydia hope that the charming stable boy she once loved is still within her ruthless, wealthy new husband?
I always look forward to a new release by Virginia Heath. Her books whisk me away and provide an escape from everyday life. In The Scoundrel’s Bartered Bride we meet Lydia and Owen who let’s just say have a bit of history! This book has a wonderful second chance romance that captured my attention from the very beginning. Lydia has found herself caught up in an arranged marriage and trust me no one wants to be married to the man she has been set up with. That’s when Owen steps in with a plan to help. By proposing marriage to him instead! The thing is there is so much history between the pair that it begs the question, can it really work? So along with a second chance romance we also get a marriage of convenience which I thought just added that extra special sparkle to the story!
I loved the interactions between the characters. Seeing the chemistry build once more but also seeing the hurt that events in the past have caused. The story moves at a lovely pace and gave me chance to get to know both Lydia and Owen. I became attached to these characters and could see things from both sides. Owen is charming but has a vulnerable side that just brought so much more depth to his character. Then you have Lydia who found herself in a difficult situation that caused big repercussions for Owen. I do think that Lydia grows so much throughout this story. I can’t talk about the characters without a special mention going to Randolph and Gertie. Let’s just say that they pretty much stole every scene!
In The Scoundrel’s Bartered Bride it’s safe to say that trust is a major issue and the struggles the characters go through really do make this story so engaging. Then add in a mystery linked to the past and I was so eager to discover the truth. The spiky and witty interactions brought all the emotions to the surface. I loved going on this journey with the characters and hoped that there would be a happy ever after. The Scoundrel’s Bartered Bride is a beautiful romance!
When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.
