Thanks for stopping by! You can catch my review for The Housekeeper of Thornhallow Hall by Lotte R. James as part of the blog tour today. With thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the invite to join the tour and to the author for my copy. First things first let’s take a look at the description for the book…

She arrived as a housekeeper

Will she leave as a countess?

To some, Thornhallow Hall might be tarnished by tales of vengeance and ghosts, but to new housekeeper Rebecca Merrickson it represents independence and peace from her tumultuous past. Until the estate’s owner, William Reid, the disappeared earl, unexpectedly returns… After clashing with him over the changes she’s made to the house, Rebecca slowly unearths the memories that haunt brooding Liam—and her defiance gives way to a shockingly improper attraction to her master!

MY REVIEW

I do love historical romance and I also love books with a gothic feel. So let’s just say I was more than happy to see a touch of gothic to this story. With the setting of Thornhallow Hall perfectly showcasing this. When new housekeeper, Rebecca arrives she finds the house closed off albeit for a few rooms. Determined to bring the house back to life, Rebecca sets to work. However the unexpected return of owner, William brings clashes, sparks of chemistry and secrets to the surface.

Both William and Rebecca have hidden pasts and they want their secrets to stay there. As the first few hints were dropped to what their secrets could be, I was definitely intrigued. I couldn’t wait to discover everything about them. This added not only an intriguing edge to the story but the characters themselves. Rebecca had a determined way about her but a caring side too. William at first glance seems to be as closed off as Thornhallow itself. Until slowly but surely the layers of his personality are revealed.

The pacing of the story was also good and I was invested throughout. Wondering how everything would turn out for this pair and also simply enjoying the way their slow burn romance played out. Just simmering away below the surface as they fought against their feelings. Within the pages of The Housekeeper of Thornhallow Hall you will find secrets, drama and romance. Along with a setting that provides a touch of atmosphere and depth. Not only do you get a wonderful story but an engaging and strong heroine leading the way.

Author Bio

Lotte James trained as an actor and theatre director, but spent most of her life working day jobs crunching numbers whilst dreaming up stories of love and adventure. She’s thrilled to finally be writing those stories, and when she’s not scribbling on tiny pieces of paper, she can usually be found wandering the countryside for inspiration, or nestling with coffee and a book.
