Red Velvet by Carla Luna @casacullen @rararesources #BlogTour #Review

Thanks for stopping by! I’m delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for Red Velvet by Carla Luna and sharing my review today. With thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the invite to join the tour and to the author for my copy. First things first let’s take a look at the description for the book…

Faking it has never been so much fun…

In her ultra-competitive family, April Beckett is used to taking last place. For years, she’s put up with jabs about her modest job and her pathetic love life. Especially after she tried to impress her older sisters with a fake boyfriend in college and failed miserably. But now she has a smoking-hot date for her brother’s wedding, guaranteed to wow them.

Until he bails. Cue total desperation.

Without April’s friendship, Brody Blackwood wouldn’t have survived his last breakup. So, if she needs a plus-one for a family wedding, he’s all in. Even if it means pretending to be her boyfriend. And committing to six days of activities at a wooded resort in Wisconsin. But how hard could a relaxing getaway with your best friend be?

Too bad there’s a grueling 10K race and a cutthroat trivia night to endure. Not to mention a massive secret to protect. But will the biggest secret of all turn out to be that this fake relationship feels more real than April or Brody ever imagined?

In Red Velvet we meet April who desperately needs a plus-one for a family wedding. After April’s current relationship ends it’s safe to say that she’s completely stuck. That is until her good friend Brody steps in and offers to help. What follows is a fun and romantic friends to lovers story.

Throughout Red Velvet there was a little bit of everything to entertain. From family drama, loveable characters and of course romance. I enjoyed getting to know both April and Brody. They already had a lovely friendship then add in the close proximity and sparks began to fly. April was a really likeable character although I did wish she could have stood up for herself more on certain occasions. Although this definitely combined to create a few drama filled moments within the story. In fact Brody made for a great hero just for staying and dealing with April’s family. It was so sweet to see the way he cared about April. They easily made me smile with their many wonderful interactions.

Red Velvet is book two in a series but it worked perfectly well as a standalone. The plot moves at a lovely pace and kept my attention completely. It really was the ideal book to curl up with especially now the weather is changing as we head into autumn. There is such a wonderful, cosy and heartwarming feel that increased with every page. Red Velvet was fun, sweet and romantic!
