Thank you for stopping by I’m delighted to be sharing my review for It’s My Birthday by Hannah Pearl as part of the blog tour today. With thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the invite and to the author for my copy. First of all though let’s take a look at the description for the book…

ABOUT THE BOOK

… I’ll cry if I want to.

Oh boy, another birthday …

Karen could be excused for crying on her birthday, especially as it’s the first one since her husband got on a plane to the States and never came back. Then there’s the fact that her workmates were practically bribed to attend her birthday meal. But when a restaurant double booking leads to her sharing a table with single dad Elliot and his daughter, things start looking up.

As Karen gets to know Elliot she experiences feelings she thought she’d never have again. But is it enough? Or will the thing that destroyed Karen’s previous relationship also ruin things with Elliot?

MY REVIEW

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I picked up this book but what I found was a warm and loveable story that was a delight to read! I loved the idea of an accidental first meeting that blossoms into something much more. Now you do have a romance running throughout this book but there are also some deeper issues at the heart of this story too. Overall I think Hannah Pearl balanced these issues really well making sure that there was a good combination of both lighter and the more heartfelt moments.

I really enjoyed getting to know Karen and Elliot especially seeing how well matched they are then add in Sophie and I loved this trio. You really get a strong sense of Karen’s thoughts and feelings as we see her struggle with making a decision about her future. Right from the start I was hoping that there would be a happy ever after for her. Both Karen and Elliot have had difficult pasts but can they move forward together?

The pacing of the story was pretty good and I found myself half way through the book in what felt like no time at all. This book made me smile and I really can’t ask for much more than that! It’s My Birthday had some sweet moments along with a much deeper feel to it that contrasted really well giving a wonderfully rounded feel. The characters go on quite a journey but I enjoyed being right there with them hoping everything would turn out okay in the end.

It’s My Birthday is a heartwarming and charm filled story. With wonderful themes of love, family and maybe even the possibility of getting that second chance!
