Thanks for stopping by! I’m delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for The Thriller Collection by Alan Gorevan and sharing my review today. With thanks to Emma at damppebbles blog tours for the invite to join the tour and to the author for my copy. First things first let’s take a look at the descriptions for the novellas in The Thriller Collection!

You and your partner are looking forward to a romantic break in the rugged landscape of West Cork, on the south west coast of Ireland. Cliff walks, seafood dinners and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. But a storm is brewing. Your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. There’s no phone signal. So you start walking. You search for help. And you find it. At an isolated house, a family gives you shelter… but something is wrong. The husband has a head wound. The son is too terrified to speak. And the wife forbids you from going near her other son’s bedroom.

Lindsey O’Reilly is at home, cleaning up after dinner, when she sees armed police swarming over her garden wall. There’sa noise downstairs. A knock on the door. She opens up, but it’s not the police. It’s the man they’re chasing. A stone-cold killer. Now he’s inside…

Jake Whelan ought to be happy. He has a devoted girlfriend and a job at a prestigious law firm, where he expects to make partner. Yet he’s crippled by terrifying panic attacks and a suspicion that his life isn’t as it should be. When Jake is passed over for promotion, he thinks his day can’t get any worse. He’s wrong. A terrible accident is about to change his life forever.

All three novellas within The Thriller Collection have the short and snappy chapters that I really enjoy. The kind that make you say “just one more chapter” but then before you know it you’ve pretty much finished the entire story! All of these novellas managed to keep me engaged and easily drew me in.

The first story in the collection is The Forbidden Room and this really showed the consequences of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It had hints of a creepy edge right from the beginning as we meet a couple in need of assistance after their car breaks down in a remote area. Needing help and shelter they find themselves at the home of a family that gives off a distinctly unsettling vibe. The story moves quickly and the fact that it was a novella really helped to increase the pace. Let’s just say it didn’t take me long to read The Forbidden Room as I was eager to know what would happen in the end.

The second story in this collection was The Hostage. This was also a story with an interesting edge. In this novella we meet Lindsey who finds herself in trouble as a man wanted by the police storms into her home. What follows is a twisty story as the reader sees Lindsey’s day spiral completely out of control. Showing how a normal day can quickly change into something more deadly. Again a quick and easy read that kept me hooked.

The third and final novella in the Thriller Collection was Hit and Run. I did enjoy this story but I have to admit it probably wasn’t my favourite out of the three novellas. However I still raced through the story especially as Hit and Run had a more drama filled plot. Things get out of hand very quickly for the main character, Jake. I guess you could say there were a few far fetched moments but in the case of this story it definitely upped the entertainment value!

I do think that all three novellas worked well in this collection and combined nicely as a trio. In each story I was eager to see how it would all end. One novella was the perfect length for me to consume in a day. Although I’m sure if you had a few hours spare you could easily whip through the whole collection in one day. I have to say that I enjoyed my time with all the characters within the collection. Seeing their unwise decisions play out and the way things became more dangerous for them.

Let’s just say if you want an escape from every day life then you will definitely be whisked away with the characters. If you are looking for entertaining plots and enjoy short and snappy chapters then The Thriller Collection could be perfect for you!
