Thanks for stopping by! I’m delighted to be sharing my review for Catherine by Linda O’Byrne as part of the International Women’s Day Book Festival blog tour today. With thanks to Zoé at Zooloo’s Book Tours and to Spellbound Books for the invite to join the tour and for my copy of the book. First things first let’s take a look at the description for the book…

Many years have passed since the dramatic events of Pride and Prejudice. In The Cousins of Pemberley series we follow a new generation of heroines – cousins with lives as different and interesting as those enjoyed by their mothers.

Catherine:

Catherine Collins, a very ordinary young woman – plain, quiet, often over-looked but possessing a reputation for having great common-sense.

Or so her distant cousin Elizabeth Darcy believes and so recommends her as governess for little Matilda Courtney.

Catherine travels to Northumberland, full of good intentions to do her best and be a credit to the family.

But appearances and reputations can be deceptive – Robert and Martin Courtney will soon learn exactly what type of girl Elizabeth has sent them.

MY REVIEW

First of all I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying The Cousins of Pemberley series. As soon as I finished Cassandra I was eager to pick up book two. In Catherine we meet Elizabeth Darcy’s distant cousin, Catherine Collins. Catherine is to travel to Northumberland to become a governess to Matilda. What follows is a wonderful slow burn romance that captured my attention from first page to last.

The characters in this story were so loveable especially Catherine. She may have had a quiet personality on the surface but there was so much more to her. It was lovely to see her confidence grow as she spent time away from her family. Then add in the sweet but chemistry filled moments with Robert and I was definitely hoping for a happy ever after. Even though this series includes characters from Pride and Prejudice the book stands strongly on its own. The author has created a new and intriguing set of characters. They easily continue to build and strengthen an already strong foundation creating stories that are both engaging and romantic.

I also loved the inclusion of characters from the previous book, Cassandra. It was lovely to catch up with them and it also helped to explain previous events if you are new to the series. Although if you get chance I do recommend starting with book one just because it is such a wonderful story.

Catherine was a sweet, romantic filled story and a joy to read. I can’t wait to read book three!

Author Bio

Fiction has always been my go-to world, a place of entertainment, excitement and imagination – I am told that I wrote my first story when I was four about a lady who had twenty children! Sadly it has been lost for posterity.

I have been writing all my life in the time I could spare from having a “proper job”, mostly for children under the name of Linda Blake, stories of ballet dancers, pony riding and talking animals! Not all in the same book!

But my love of romance, a great tendency to say “What if..?” and the endearing characters of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice have now resulted in a series of books that will take the reader forward to the next generation of heroines.

I am retired, live in Kent and am a keen member of my local drama group.  Directing and acting take up a lot of my time – I have been given the onerous task of writing the Christmas pantomimes – but I still need to cope with a large garden, doing daily battle with the heron who thinks my pond is his own breakfast buffet and keeping in touch with friends and family scattered all over the world.
